Consulting Your Doctor about CCSVI treatment

You doctor is a person so treat him with respect but insist, he listens to your very important request. Traditionally, doctors would refer you to a neurologist but as you want a vascular examination he should refer you to a:

  • Interventional Radiologist
  • Vascular Surgeon

Your doctor may insist that you speak to your neurologist but ask him to refer you to an interventional radiologist, a vascular surgeon or someone who specializes in vascular irregularities, because the problem you are referring to is vascular.

What if my Doctor Hasn't heard of CCSVI

If he is unfamiliar with CCSVI, then he will probably dismiss your suggestion as another poorly researched miracle cure. Due to the nature of the internet it can be all too often, true. Explain that CCSVI is simply a vascular problem. If found, it can normally be safely corrected by experienced vascular surgeons.

One top heart surgeon has undergone CCSVI treatment twice, and feels it is medically unethical to deny MS patients.

Many doctor may be insulted, dismiss your request as nothing more than straw clutching. Doctors are highly trained professionals and don't appreciate someone pushing an idea that is foreign to them.

Explain to him vascular issues have been associated with more rapid disability progression in multiple sclerosis.

Point out to him that CCSVI has recently been recognized by 47 countries, and maybe that is why the condition it hasn't come to his attention before. You understand he is busy so could he refer you to a vascular specialist who may have more insight into the venous issues.

Show your doctor an accumulation of CCSVI scientific clinical research. If he doesn't wan't to read more or discuss this further, ask him to refer you to an interventional radiologist or vascular surgeon who will.

Be respectful but be decisive, as you already know one one time bomb in your body (MS), you cannot afford a vascular irregularity to cause further unknown damage..

My Doctor told me I don't have CCSVI & My Symptoms are MS related.

You Doctor may insist that MS is autoimmune and is unrelated to the vascular system. let them know that the immune theory has not been proven either. No antigenic target has ever been found.

There is a need to find out what causes the immune system to react. Ask them if it is possible that the immune system is attempting to clear the damage of axonal and tissue death. This can be compared to how the immune system reacts in strokes and hypoxia. You will find Oligoclonal bands within a stroke victims, the cerebral spinal fluid. Their condition is not treated as an autoimmune disease, so why is this not taken into consideration.

Tell him he is not looking at you with specialist vascular image catching tools, and such an assessment cannot be made without using vascular imaging.

If you have any noticeable symptoms your doctor should not assume MS is the answer. The human body reacts to a combination of things and not all can be neatly attributed to MS. There is no known cause or cure for multiple sclerosis but in most cases CCSVI can be corrected.

CCSVI is a vascular condition that can be visualized and in most cases corrected using balloon angioplasty, your doctor will know about angioplasty through the treatment of stroke sufferers. He will advice you of the risks involved, or better still, he will refer you to a vascular specialist who will go into it in more depth with you.

My doctor say's Clinical Trials Have Not proven a link with MS & CCSVI. What Do I Do Now?

Thank your doctor for the clinical fact, and ask him to refer you to an interventional radiologist or a vascular surgeon who has specialist vascular knowledge, you are here because of your history of vascular symptoms that may or may not have been explained away as MS.

Either way, CCSVI can generally be safely corrected, although clinical trials will be required for more complicated instances.

My Doctor say's there is no Proof CCSVI is a Dangerous Vascular Condition

Thank him for that Information but explain that you have MS, and vascular comorbidity is associated with more rapid disability progression in multiple sclerosis. CCSVI is a correctional problem, not a disease modifying drug one. A vascular blockage can stop oxygen getting to where it should go.

Tell him that leaving CCSVI undetected or uncorrected vascular issues isn't something you want to add to your MS, the unknown condition, chewing away at your bodily functions.

My Doctors Says Everything Seems So Uncertain. What can I Tell Him?

Make sure he knows this is a correctional problem and there is no medical reason not to have it checked out, as clinical trials have already concluded that CCSVI is at least twice likely to be seen in MS patients than healthy subjects.

Tell him you have this illness called MS, which has no cure or cause, but there is a high probability you have a CCSVI, based on symptoms of vascular issues, that the majority of MS patients tested had CCSVI.

Tell him that vascular symptoms are well documented in clinical trials. On current evidence many of your past symptoms could have been signs of unknown vascular irregularities.

We Do Things Differently in Our Country

You Doctor may be of the view that Italian research is approached in a completely different manner, and would not be approved in your country. For now, that may be so, but the evidence of these studies have intrigued some of the most respected minds of the medical field, on a global scale. This theory is backed by Doctors from Harvard and Stanford Universities.

There is a growing list of highly respected medical professionals changing their views on this condition. Just ask your doctor to take a little time out of his hectic schedule to consider these findings. This new treatment appears to have improved the quality of life for many. You would appreciate if they would look at the evidence and evaluate the merits, then hopefully you can discuss the pros and cons together.

Doctor/Patient Communication

The evidence is overwhelming an many highly respected medical professionals feel it is unethical to deny CCSVI screening and treatment.

Improved Technology

Your Doctor may have a strong understanding of the subject and point out to you that the vascular connection to MS was studied back in the 1950's and it was proven false. Back then, specialists attempted the use of blood thinners to treat MS and it could not resolve the venous stenosis issue, Dr Zamboni found in all of the patients he tested. The advancement in technology has proven the difference.

The doppler ultrasound and use of resonance venography technology to view the blockages is new. 1950's technology wasn't advanced enough to locate these venous blockage. Now this is possible.

My Doctor Says This Seems Like a Dangerous Procedure

Dr Zamboni's patients have experienced no serious complications to date. The opening up of the veins using angioplasty is standard medical procedure. This procedure is done on a daily basis in treating closed blood vessels. Why would anyone leave a blockage or obstruction? A blockage to the sinuses can cause a patient years of discomfort but can be undone, leaving a known blockage to the seems more dangerous than attempting to remove it.

It's your health at stake. Don't be is-heartened if your doctor initially rejects this theory. There is no evidence to suggest this process does not work. Dr Zamboni extended an open invitation to prove his theory wrong.

CCSVI Protocols

PLEASE print this out for your doctors before you get scans, especially if they are using MRV (magnetic resonance venography) technology without doppler ultrasound. It is ESSENTIAL that the MRV's be done correctly:

If this fails, ask your doctor to refer you to a CCSVI specialist. If there are no CCSVI specialist area, contact your local and national MSSociety and ask them to rectify this shortfall in MS patient care.
