Fear the Cure - Deny the Cura
The Labeling Kings of Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Jean-Martin Charcot died in 1893, was the founder of modern neurology and has been associated with at least 15 medical labels, and in 1868 one of those labels happened to be multiple sclerosis.
He greatly influenced the developing fields of neurology and psychology and also taught Sigmund Freud who founded the psychoanalytic method of psychiatry.
Multiply MS Mystery
In 1996 the United States National MS Society extended the labeling to four sub groups;
- Relapsing Remitting
- Secondary Progressive
- Primary Progressive
- Progressive Relapsing
" Most diseases are the result of medication which has been prescribed to relieve and take away a beneficiant and warning symptom on the part of Nature. " - Elbert Hubbard
Stay Within the Mysterious Unknown
To date, no cause or cure has been found for multiple sclerosis but although it is a mystery has never been revealed by the neurology community, there is an understanding that a vascular component should not be attributed to MS.
Jean-Martin Charcot and the US MS Society have labeled an unknown condition and the vascular component is outside the label many MS patients feel persecuted with.
Brand the Patient
At the moment, there are no accurate counts of MS patients worldwide. In Scotland, we have about 10,000 MS sufferers. These figures vary from source to source but it's assumed Scotland has the highest concentration of multiple sclerosis in the world. The diagnosis is a little vague so the neurologists rely on guess work based on the labeled disease which has no known cause or cure.
Disaster of Discovery
In the last few years, an Italian doctor, Paolo Zamboni discovered a vascular problem as he fought to improve the faltering health of his MS labeled wife. Several historic and current medical publications support a vascular component to MS but it has yet to break through to the general neurology community. Zamboni's research took him back in time to old vascular references that didn't fit in with the theory of non discovery, labeled by Jean-Martin Charcot and set in stone by the National MS Society.
The neurology community want to know if this known problem "CCSVI" is directly related to MS, and if so, if it is the cause or cure.
A Llifetime Lost
Clinical trials will probably extend treatment beyond the grasps of most MS sufferers. Why? Because CCSVI is a fairly new discovery and MS is a wild and mysterious illness.
Although CCSVI treatment using balloon angioplasty is considered safe by the medical & vascular communities, those more complicated problems will involve clinical trials. We cannot find out who can be safely treated because we are unwilling to learn more about CCSVI.
Many patients can be too easily treated, many say it is far less invasive than their daily concoction of medications and daily needling. Balloon angioplasty may not be the only answer to MS but many experienced vascular surgeons and patients have shown it worthy of immediate attention.
Hide-N-Seek
Zamboni safely used balloon angioplasty on all his patients and he taught others do do the same. Several of his patients have displayed dramatic improvements, other trials confirmed the CCSVI theory, and patient benefits far outweigh potential downsides.
The MS Society Advisors concede, that although many improvements have been well documented, and screening is not invasive and shows that the majority of patients properly tested have this condition, "we do not have enough evidence." Global screening of MS patients might help with this.
Large scale CCSVI treatments within the MS community will offer people like of Dr Mark Freedman, a spokesperson for MS Society, his chance to expand his clinical trial book publications,
Vascular Problem with an MS
There will be more investigation into complicated CCSVI cases and mark will have the opportunity to compose clinical trials based on the National MS Society's four labeled sub divisions. Clinical trial heaven for him either way, although vascular surgeons may have a different way of treating human vascular problems.
Clinical trials have not always been used with good intention, nonetheless, CCSVI is a physical and correctional problem, and luckily, this physical problem can be pictured and often corrected by a skilled vascular specialist.
The Merry-Go-Round
Career and money motivated MS treatment industry concerns have too much to lose if anything close to a cure is ever found for multiple sclerosis. Even the MS Societies expansion within the MS Treatment merry-go-round would stutter. The focus is on expansion. Join our gang, get the donations organized and spread the word.
Practice Makes Perfect
Top Heart surgeon Gianfranco Campalini was treated by Zamboni and saw remarkable improvements to his quality of life, vascular issues can re-occur and that it what happened to Gianfranco. Luckily he briefed his own team of experienced vascular surgeons in the UK, and got them to do the procedure again. The second surgery proved even more impressive and Campalini then publicly suggested it was unethical to delay treatment of MS patients.
Charity to Charity
Week in week out, billions of dollars are collected in the name of charity. Fundraising has become an industry within an industry, and major charities do not hide the fact they want your time and money.
They promote the theory that you're contributing to a good cause and as good hearted people your should keep the cash coming in and spread the word of good intentions.
Chemical Society
We can no longer have an international MS Society without pharmaceutical industry input.
Pharmaceutical's contribute to the MS Society in many ways and they understand the devastations a cure for MS would cause to their business. It's no secret these large chemical companies are motivated by money. You only have to look at their projection for future expansion into this growing, and profitable MS business sector.
Brothers in Arms
Forecasts for future prosperity have been well documented, and many predict delightful deteroiration of MS Health. Where does CCSVI come into pharmaceutical plans?
Pharmaceutical's continue to support the MS Society who lead the way in research and are still searching for the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis.
No Label - No Chance
MS patients carry the MS label for life. Patients almost become MS objects for neurologists and pharmas to experiment on. CCSVI is a condition that can be visualized, and it's repair can also be witnessed.
Although most people with MS who've been properly tested have displayed this correctional problem, our labeling theorists need more but still searching for the elusive cure to the mysterious illness.
An apple a day keep's the doctor away
Today's society has distanced itself from natural eating habits. I was surprised to find few formal clinical trials included an accurate account of nutritional during MS Studies, as most of the pharma drug trials could be severely tainted.
Natural dietary theories are often mocked by Quackwatch.org, this business interest is owned by american Stephen Barrett, a psychiatrist who runs a number of websites, ironically dealing with quackery and health fraud. What struck me as strange was that it was written in a similar style to medicalmyths.com, the publicly hosted website which eerily hinted to respectability.
Mock Cancer - The Name of the Rose
Surgeon Lorraine Day was mocked by Barrett because she cured her own cancer focusing on natural diet. He wrote an article on quackwatch "Stay Away from Dr. Lorraine Day," He writes with a similar rage and style as the carefully planned medicalmyths blogger Colin Rose.
An apple a day or Big Juicy Pill?
CCSVI is a corrective problem, the condition has already been recognized by 47 countries world wide and treatments can often be accomplished within the hour. In financial terms, the MS treatment industry is huge, global MS Societies, pharmaceuticals, and government are core to this.
Red Herring
No one is claiming that CCSVI treatment is a cure for MS but it is a cure for CCSVI, and vascular problems have been recorded as detrimental to MS. The use of the word "cure" is a red herring to distance us from the real problem, the CCSVI blockage or malformation.
Muddy Waters - Toxic Mix
In 2007, the US MS Society raked in over $105 million dollars, most of it through public goodwill.
That year fundraising Efficiency was $0.08 in the dollar, the 92% surplus filtered through various sources. The 92% who lose out of rising MS care is not maintained.
Our MS Societies are registered charities and as such, receive a certain amount of leeway regarding taxable income. These tax rebates also come from public money and it's probably more than the 8% that actually gets to the cause.
I am not judging the MS Society as an organization, they have their own agenda. Staff pension plans and cures just don't mix. Pharmaceutical companies have made it clear profit is prime objective.
Animal Farm - Crazy Lips
I don't have to question the mental stability of Dr Barret from quackwatch, the courts have already exposed it in October 13, 2005, Allentown, Pennsylvania (His Home Town).
Court Case: Stephen Barrett, M.D. vs. Tedd Koren, D.C. and Koren Publications, Inc
Quacking Income
Around that time Barratt had similar defamation lawsuits against roughly 40 people across USA and lost them all. A major financial setback for a guy who's annual income was estimated at a little over $50,000 per year.
Barratt fought a $10 million defamation case to protested after publicly being labeled a "Quackpot," apparently he lost the case.
It is hilarious to think that this "defamation lawsuit specialist" had scathingly attack on Doctor Lorraine Day. His accounts of Lorraine Day's aim to improve the health of cancer patients is disturbing. My own mother had her life cut short by cancer, and can assure you the story behind Barratt's attack, has a putrifying chemical smell to it.
Quack Under Pressure
At trial, under cross-examination, Barrett admitted he wasn't a Medical Board Certified psychiatrist as he failed the certification exam. Not everyone passes their exams and it would be unfair to question his intellect but he has been called upon by the FDA, FTC and other governmental agencies for his alleged expertise.
During the Koren trial he conceded ties to AMA, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Barratt, the guy labeled the "Quackpot," in charge of Quackwatch, an international network of people who are concerned about quackery things, now internationally recruit volunteers and expert advisors. The cute little logo on the website is that of a duck.
"If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's probably a duck."
Magic is a performing art that entertains an audience by creating illusions of seemingly impossible or supernatural feats, using purely natural means.
Psychology is an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of human (or animal) mental functions and behaviors.
Medicine is the art and science of healing. It encompasses a range of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.
Merry-Go-Round
Many MS patients including Campalini, the highly rated heart surgeon have benefited immensely from this short corrective procedure, to such an extent they consider it unethical, to deny other MS patients.
CCSVI is in danger of not getting out to the masses of MS sufferers worldwide. Too many people in a positions of trust stand to lose wealth and power. The expansion of the MS Treatment merry-go-round must march on.
Healthy Villains
Lorraine Day, Paolo Zamboni, Gianfranco Campalini and others like Ashton Embry have been mocked and rejected. We may not be allowed to put an MS tag on their immense successes but in the pharmaceutical world they are villains, using more natural methods to eat away at their growing and prosperous market.
Sickness Label
Today's Doctors are increasingly under pressure. In the UK, many are feeling the heat of a rigid government sickness points program (labeling). A system that disregards the assessment of qualified, practicing, and dedicated doctors.
CCSVI is a correctional issue. Vascular surgeons are familiar with balloon angioplasty. All doctors will understand the idea behind CCSVI.
Global Issue
The condition is recognized by 47 countries worldwide. Patients who have studied CCSVI are now coming back as is makes sense. Vascular investigations are needed, who do these people see?
Before the label stand a person before the doctor. A person with urgent needs regardless of the tag. Someone who will probably have many of the symptoms associated with vascular problems.
Jean-Martin Charcot labeled an unknown condition. MS Society split the same mystery into four defining categories. CCSVI does not fit in to this vague illness plan.
Do You Fear the Cure?
The term cure comes from the Latin cura which translates to care, concern or attention.
"For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed;
neither hidden, that shall not be known."
Luke 12:2
